NUMC’s Drama Ministry serves a unique role in the life of the church. A broad range of age groups is given the opportunity to interact over a period of weeks as they work towards a common goal; church members and affiliates who might not be otherwise acquainted in a church of considerable size get to know each other well. The Drama Ministry is a potential entry point to the church; the church gains active members, affiliates and Sunday School teachers through their initial and continuing involvement in the Drama Ministry.
The development of caring relationships in a spiritual environment is perhaps the most significant opportunity furnished by the Drama Ministry; certainly it is in keeping with the church’s mission objectives. The Drama Ministry gives family members the opportunity to work together while strengthening the larger church family of members and affiliates and reaching out to the community.
Large-scale productions allow actors and a production staff of a wide range of age, experience and ability to work together; these productions serve as an entry point for those interested in participation in the Drama Ministry. Smaller-scale productions emphasize ensemble acting, allowing experienced and talented actors to work in a more exacting and focused group effort. There are also acting opportunities for children and youth choir members as they prepare their Christmas, year-end and tour musicals.
